DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER AWARD: In April 1969 the Henry Leavenworth Chapter of the Association of the United States Army established the "INTERNATIONAL AWARD" to recognize the Distinguished International Military Student Graduate of each year's class.
On 11 August 1969 the Commandant USACGSC with the consent of Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower arranged for future International Awards to be known as the "DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER AWARD." The award honors military scholarship and is held in the highest esteem by the winners and the nations from which they come.
HANS SCHLUP AWARD : Established in 1997, this award recognizes and promotes in the IMS community at CGSOC, the significance and importance of international relations developed through the network of friends and professional acquaintances made during CGSOC attendance. The IMS must be a current resident student at CGSOC.

INTERNATIONAL AND U.S. MILITARY STUDENTS
THE MASTER LOGISTICIAN AWARD: The intricacies of modern warfare have reinforced the Army's need for exceptionally competent logisticians at all levels. To provide a challenging academic forum for students demonstrating a special aptitude for logistics, the College inaugurated the Master Logistician Program with the 1982/83 class. This demanding extra-curricular activity required the nominees to prepare a detailed logistical plan predicated upon a corps-level scenario, and submit to a rigorous 3-hour oral defense of their plan before a panel of experts.

ARTER-DARBY MILITARY HISTORY WRITING AWARD: Established in May 1980, the Arter-Darby Award enhances professional scholarship by research and writing about the evolution of American tactical doctrine. Major General Robert Arter, a former deputy commandant, and former US Senator Harry Darby of Kansas City endow this award. This award for military scholarship is open to all members of the CGSOC. Interested students write a well-documented, historical MMAS or a thesis-length monograph for submission to an editorial board. The student who submits the best essay receives a prize at graduation.

THE DOUGLAS MACARTHUR AWARD MILITARY LEADERSHFSP WRITING AWARD: Established in 1985, the Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Writing Award encourages and recognizes scholarship and professional writing on leadership. The Douglas MacArthur Foundation in Norfolk, Virginia, sponsors this award and the CAL administers it.

GENERAL WILLIAM E. DEPUY AWARD: In February 1993 the US Army Training and Doctrine Command's (TRADOC) commander directed CGSC to present an annual award for outstanding original military thought as a memorial to General William E. DePuy. CGSOC and School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) students may compete for the DePuy award by submitting MMAS theses, written works comparable to a thesis, or non traditional works such as computer simulations, which show significant original thought about doctrine, training, organization, materiel, or leadership. Corps and Division Doctrine Directorate (CDD) administers the competition.

BG BENJAMIN H. GRIERSON AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN STRATEGIC STUDIES: The Grierson Award recognizes excellence in strategic studies by students enrolled in the Strategist Program. Award selection includes recommendations (SGA and instructors), reviews of all grades, performance in the Strategist Program courses, a specific writing requirement, and an oral comprehension examination. The Buffalo Soldier Educational and Historical Committee awards a plaque at graduation.

DONALD SMYTHE AWARD IN HISTORY: Created in 1989, the College presents the Smythe Award annually to the best CGSOC history student. C610 instructors invite candidates to write a thesis length paper on a historical topic, and to take at least two Combat Studies Institute (CSI) electives. The winner is selected based on course performance, recommendations, and the quality of his written work. The winner receives a certificate at graduation and has his/her name inscribed on a plaque displayed in Lewis & Clark Center. This award, by recognizing excellence in the study of history, honors the memory of an esteemed scholar, Father Donald W. Smythe, (S. J.). Father Smythe served as the John F. Morrison Professor of History from 1985-1986.

EXCELLENCE IN JOINT COMMAND, CONTROL, COMMUNICATIONS, COMPUTERS, AND INTELLIGENCE (JC4 I) WRITING AWARD: The student who excels in research and writing on the subjects of command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence receives the Excellence in the JC4 I Writing Award. This competition is open to both CGSOC and SAMS students. The Kansas City Chapter of Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) will award a plaque for the best essay at graduation.
