red ball The first Story Time for the Fall season will be August 18 at 1000.  These programs are held in the Children's Room on second floor.

red ball 30 July - "End of the Summer" Reading Party for children and teens is on Friday afternoon, July 30th, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. A puppet show and story teller will be featured. Please stop by to receive a bag of goodies and to participate in a drawing for prizes. For additional information, please call 758-3053.

red ball We are also the home of the Army Community Service Collection. This is a specialized collection of books and CDs selected to help military families. Subjects covered include: finances, deployment, job resumes, and parenting. These are on the first floor, next to the DVD collection, located in front of the circulation desk.

red ball The CARL materials come in many formats, including books (bestsellers, fiction, non-fiction, science fiction & mysteries), popular books on tape or CDs, movie videos and DVDs (classic and children's videos and the latest blockbuster releases), popular magazines and major newspapers. The library also provides electronic information like: full text magazines and newspaper databases available both in the library and on the Internet through our Links.

red ball The CARL has assembled digital full text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction, and 3,400 publicly-accessible titles. The best way to learn about eBooks is to experience them, so click here to find out how. (Available to Fort Leavenworth Users, for remote access see the Reference Staff for instructions)

red ball The Children's Library is located on the second floor of the Combined Arms Research Library. The collection includes picture books for pre-schoolers and fiction and non-fiction for elementary and middle-school students. The young adult titles are shelved just outside the Children's Room. The library also has a selection of children's videos and DVD’s that are located in front of the circulation desk on the first floor.

red ball   Reading Lists for Children and their Grown-ups: Check out these fun lists of books on many children's topics, such as dogs, trains, and new baby, all found in the children's section of our library.
red ball   William Allen White Children's Book Awards: Award winning books selected by Kansas teachers. Each year the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards Committee creates a Master List of titles, chosen from books published during the previous year. Since 2000, there have been two Master Lists, one for 3rd to 5th Grade and one for 6th to 8th Grade.

SIRS:  A database containing articles on a wide range of topics of interest to young people.  A great resource for elementary, middle and high school student papers.  **Only available at CARL and offices on Fort Leavenworth** Many other databases are available at the following link:  CARL Databases.
 
Homework Help: Sponsored by the State Library of Kansas, Homework Kansas is an interactive online tutoring service for Kansas children grades 4-12 and college intro students. The service can be accessed at www.homeworkkansas.org and is available for free to Kansas residents throughout the state. A Kansas Library Card is required to use the site (the site provides users with a way to obtain a temporary Kansas Library Card). Soldiers and Family members assigned to Fort Leavenworth can pick up a Kansas Library Card at the CARL's 1st Floor Circulation Desk.

Need help with citations, bibliographies, or works cited? Try using  RefWorks, citation software that creates citations, bibliographies, footnotes, etc. in all of the major style formats. Fort Leavenworth users can create a free RefWorks account.
