Organizational Chart Collection

The CARL Archives presently holds graphical depictions of various military organizations and activities located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, from 1924 to the present.  These organizational charts were typically designed to be posted on a wall or placed on a desk for quick reference to key offices and personnel, then discarded when newer versions were distributed.  These charts today still offer useful information to the historian.  First, they confirm the presence of specific military organizations at Fort Leavenworth over the years.  The charts can even help place organizations in specific buildings on the post.  Next, they reflect organizational changes wrought by streamlining, economizing, or simply a command preference for reorganization.  Finally many charts establish specific individuals as members of an organization and often list a corresponding office and telephone number.  The charts are key to a complete study of Fort Leavenworth institutional history.

The researcher will find the charts arranged as listed in this inventory in the following groups:

  • Command and General Staff School                              1924 -1946
  • Command and General Staff College                             1946 - Present
  • Combined Arms Command and Related Functions     1962 - Present
  • Fort Leavenworth and Garrison-related Functions        1944 - Present

In those cases where the CARL has acquired a small number of irregularly produced charts, the archivist has chosen to group those charts with the parent organization.  CACDA/CATDA charts, for example, are subgroups and are arranged chronologically within the Combined Arms Command group.
