SPRING 2010 BROWN BAG STUDENT SEMINARS

During the academic year the CARL organizes monthly classes for CGSC faculty, staff, SAMS students, and members of the community who are interested in learning library services and library databases. Don't forget to bring your lunch!

All Brown Bag Classes (unless otherwise noted) are held on Wednesdays from 1230 - 1330 in the Combined Arms Research Library, 1st Floor, Room 112, Eisenhower Hall. Call 758-3053 for further information.

Navigating Blackboard - How to you get to the library databases through BlackBoard? How do you find your assignments on BlackBoard? Where is the library tab? What’s the master library? 24 FEB 1230-1330
Proquest and EbscoHost & Military Databases - This will be held on March 17 instead of March 3.    
Cultural/History Databases - Where to go for the country study or cultural paper. What terrorist organizations are currently active in Burma? Where can you find WWII primary documents? Who has oral interviews from people who witnessed Pearl Harbor? Learn answers to these and much more.
Proquest and EbscoHost & Military Databases - These are probably  the most popular and well-used library databases.  They are very current and cover a wide variety of material like news, academic, business, and military titles for journal articles.
Where can you find descriptions of weapons systems? Where do military contractors and schools submit all their reports and papers? What is the current terrorist activity of the IRA? Learn what databases are geared toward the military and how to use them.

RefWorks - Create your bibliography with the click of a mouse. OK, so it’s not that easy, but RefWorks will help you organize your sources, cite them and create a bibliography for your thesis or other long paper. Come and learn the tricks. 31 MAR 1230-1330
Copyright -Every year at least one student does not obtain copyright permission to use something in their thesis, or an instructor doesn’t realize they need permission for some article or book excerpt.
